My Long Lost Brother?

My sister sent us this ad and said the kid in it reminded her of me. While there are obviously some major differences (I have much larger lips for example), there is some resemblance.

Mission Inn Lighting 2008

It's become a Todd/Aleman/Broberg/Hamilton tradition to attend the annual lighting of the Mission Inn in downtown Riverside. In addition to watching the fireworks/lighting ceremony, we eat at Simple Simon's bakery/restaurant and munch on fresh Kettle Corn (which we call Cattle Corn...a nickname I coined at Sarah's brothers' football games back in the day). Here are some photos and videos of this year's ceremony (by the way, the foot traffic is INTENSE, so after the ceremony ends, if you want to get out of there in a timely fashion, be prepared with at least one cattle prod, a linebacker and the ability to crowd surf):

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I believe it's illegal in some states to create a Christmas post before having posted pictures from Thanksgiving, but I guess if the law comes down on us, so be it. Between Thanksgiving and Carter's birthday on the 14th of this month, we've taken quite a few photos.

We've had a great couple of months. I was off for most of November, went back to work for three weeks, and have this week and next off. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, as always, and are preparing to celebrate Christmas with our families. Tonight we'll be at my folks' and tomorrow we'll be with Sarah's family.

Here are some photos for December. If it seems like we post an excessive amount, it's because we're going to print our blog into a book, so this is really our family scrapbook...and, well, a place for my ramblings and eccentric reflections.

Anyhow, we hope you enjoy Christmas and, regardless of your religous/spiritual traditions and beliefs, we hope you embrace the Christian ethos of love, gratitude and generosity. For my family and I, today and tomorrow is a celebration of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the ascended master who paved the way back to the Father with His endless sacrifice. We worship him now and forever. May all seasons bring you blessings and may we all choose happiness!

Carter attends preschool at a Methodist Church and recently took part in a performance there. My dad, Adam, Ryan, Uncle E & Grandma Sue came...thanks guys! Here are some photos we took:

The light was quite low, so here's the best I could come up with (the photos had to be manipulated to lighten them up, thus the grainy texture):

Sarah cooked a delicious meal for our neighbors, the Petersons (Reid is on the right). We also invited our other neighbor, Sharon, and her parents. Sarah did a fantastic job and all the food was delicious! Thank you honey! I think we might even get a little post by her about it.

Thank you for the many Christmas cards (there are even more than this, but we havent' put them all up yet...and Claire likes to take them down too, of course!) We're very blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. We love you all! :

Two Trees Hike with Ryan

Last month my friend Ryan and I took a short hike just up the road (Blaine) from our house.  The trail is called "Two Trees" and I often ride my mountain bike and take short walk/runs on the lower portions.

The full Two Trees is an enjoyable 4 miler and it took us just over two hours that morning.  We didn't stay long at the top.  I'm excited to make the hike again now that it's beginning to "green up" after the rains.  Although the hills aren't huge, it provides a great sense of escape from the monotony of suburbia.

Leaving the house:

TONS of mountain lions in the area (sarcasm...but there are lots of coyotes):

There's a freshwater spring along the trail:

Don't worry, we beat up the taggers who did this to the lovely stop sign!:

"Go West young man," I said in a thick accent.

Next time we go, come along!

ZION June 2008

OK, this will be the first of some major updates/posts on the blog because the backlog is getting ridiculous.  I intended to do an amazing post with in-depth descriptions of some of these photos but it's just not going to happen...not with the amount of photos and videos we've been taking.

So, this picture slideshow is composed of some of the photos I took during our Zion trip in June.  The highlight of the trip was spending time with one another, hiking the narrows and scaling Angel's Landing, one of the most spectacular hikes in the world.  Enjoy!

(Sorry, I know the size of the player exceeds the width of the blog.)

Kid's TV & Noggin's "Everwhere I Go"

Although we don't have to worry about Claire's screen time since she shows little to no interest in the box, Carter would spend half his day in front of the TV if we let him.  We do our best to keep C's TV time to a minimum, but there are programs on TV that we think are not only appropriate, but actually good for him.  We're fortunate that the programming we get through AT&T has Noggin which has pre-school appropriate educational content 24/7.  So, although he generally watches only an hour of TV a day--maybe more when Dad has the kids--at least he's watching content made for him.

Here is the intro song "Everywhere I go" from Noggin.  Carter and I like the lyrics although he gets annoyed when I try to sing them in the Moose's voice and I get them all wrong.
